Six-mill levy: essential to funding higher education in Montana

2008 - MEA-MFT officially supports Legislative Referendum 118 (LR 118), known as the "six-mill levy" that helps fund the Montana University System. The six-mill levy will appear on Montana's November ballot.

MEA-MFT played a major role in the 2007 Legislature in passing Senate Bill 16 , the bill that submits the six-mill levy to voters.

Brief facts:
  • The six-mill levy must be reauthorized every 10 years.
  • It currently raises nearly $13 million annually for the university system.
  • It's the brick upon which the rest of the U-System funding is built.
  • Approving LR 118 won’t raise anybody’s taxes. We’ve been paying the six-mill university system levy every year for nearly six decades now. It's just as crucial as ever.

You can help get LR 118 passed. Talk to friends and colleagues. Tell them how important LR 118 is to higher education in Montana. Ask them to vote for LR 118.
