It's time for MSU-Bozeman

Comments by MEA-MFT President Eric Feaver

At every public higher education unit in Montana, faculty members have a union--except MSU-Bozeman.

MEA-MFT proudly represents affiliates in all three community colleges (Dawson, Miles, and Flathead Valley), all five colleges of technology, UM-Western, Montana Tech, MSU-Northern, MSU-Billings, and the University of Montana.

It is way past time for faculty at Montana State University-Bozeman to participate in our union and enjoy real shared governance.

We are right now engaged in a significant attempt to organize MSU-Bozeman. It is hard work, but we believe we can get the job done and done well.

You can help. Let your faculty friends at MSU-Bozeman know the commitment, strength, and value of our union, of what we do together. Urge them to sign one our cards indicating they want to be organized.

As the exclusive bargaining agent and union representative of organized higher education faculty in Montana, MEA-MFT has for years led the fight:

  • for the six-mill levy to fund higher education;

  • for better retirement;

  • for faculty health care;

  • for academic freedom;

  • for fair, equitable, and rational compensation;

  • The ballot issues we have fought and defeated (in particular CI-75 in 1998 and CI-97 in 2006) that would have disemboweled state funding of higher education (and all public programs and services) are by themselves ample proof of our longstanding commitment to proper funding of our higher education systems.

  • The newly revised university system prebudget negotiations in which we are now engaged cry out for MSU-Bozeman's faculty participation.

    We have a whole lot more work to do. We will be able to do it better with MSU-Bozeman faculty on board.
