Testing, testing
In recent years, testing and test results have grown in importance
to state and national leaders. Results of assessments must
be made public and will be used to determine rewards and punishments
for school districts. These changes could become either an
unwelcome intrusion or a tool to improve student learning.
In order to fully understand and effectively implement the
changes that will soon be required, the Montana Commission
on Teaching has prepared a PowerPoint presentation that details
the past, present, and future requirements of student assessment.
The presentation also outlines the commission's vision of
effective assessment and makes recommendations based on this
vision.
Margaret Bowles, director of certification at the Office
of Public Instruction and chair of the commission, encourages
educators to contact the commission for more information.
"A Montana Commission on Teaching member in your area
is available to share the presentation and supplemental materials
with your group," Bowles said. "Our presentation
will prompt discussion and assist you in making informed decisions
about student assessment."
