Confused by ESEA?
Erik Burke, MEA-MFT Public Policy Director
Did you know that according to new federal definitions, Montana's
last two Montana Teachers of the Year are allegedly not "highly
qualified" to teach in their classrooms?
Were you aware that nearly 40 Montana schools are required
to hire private tutors for students this fall?
Did you know Montana schools will be held accountable for
student performance based on an assessment most Montana educators
have never seen?
If it sounds bizarre to you, you're not alone. The newly
reauthorized Secondary Education Act (ESEA, or "No Child
Left Behind Act) has many Montana educators shaking their
heads.
MEA-MFT is working hard to analyze the new ESEA and all of
its ramifications for Montana teachers and school employees.
Over the next few months, we will be highlighting various
ESEA issues in MEA-MFT Today and on this web site.
MEA-MFT wants you to be informed so you can help navigate
the many local decisions and debates that will accompany implementation
of this complex law.
Watch this web site and MEA-MFT Today for updates, and if
you have questions, don't hesitate to call your local MEA-MFT
field office.
