Amazing Meleah Himber
Meleah
Himber is part of MEA-MFT's future. As a member of Student
MEA-MFT, she is a college student preparing to become a teacher.
As an active student member, Meleah attended the 2008
MEA-MFT Representative Assembly as a student delegate.
She plans to start student teaching in the fall, in secondary
English.
Meleah also has a film degree from the University of Pittsburgh.
"I've always been interested in documentaries -- film
for educational purposes," she said. She has done some
internships for Public Broadcasting System and came to Missoula
to work with the Wildlife Film Festival.
While in Missoula, she got sidetracked into a teaching degree
-- and that 's good news for the lucky kids who will get to
have her as a teacher.
What I do: "I'm a student. I'm working in classrooms
doing field experiences. It's exciting working with kids,
especially high school age -- they're starting to question
things. In English, kids get a chance to learn to express
themselves."
Why I belong to MEA-MFT "It's like Senator (Jon)
Tester was talking about (in his address to Representative
Assembly). It's about getting involved. It's interesting to
see how going to meetings and voting does make a difference.
Education reform is important, and MEA-MFT is huge in that.
I always read the newsletter (MEA-MFT Today), and it's great
to see members involved, great to see the information on candidates.
The potential is amazing."
What I do for fun: Backpackign, rock climbing, cross
country skiing, photography.
Good luck in your career, Meleah! Thanks for doing Work That
Matters for children wherever you teach.
