MEA-MFT endorses Jesse Laslovich for state auditor
MEA-MFT, Montana’s largest labor union, has announced that its Committee On Political Education (COPE) endorses Jesse Laslovich for state auditor in the 2016 election.
MEA-MFT is composed of about 18,000 public employees across Montana, including state and local government employees, k-12 public school teachers and support staff, higher education faculty, Head Start, and health care employees.
The 34 members of MEA-MFT’s Committee On Political Education (COPE) live and work in communities all across the state and represent all of MEA-MFT’s membership groups. They include Republicans and Democrats. COPE members endorsed Laslovich after an extensive candidate interview.
“Jesse Laslovich has great energy and deep Montana roots,” said MEA-MFT President Eric Feaver. “He grew up in Anaconda and has many public employees in his family, including educators. He understands and appreciates the important work public employees do.”
Feaver added, “Jesse wants to bring rationality to the way insurance is provided in Montana. He is concerned about the cost and quality of insurance. That’s extremely important to our MEA-MFT members and their families. We need someone in this position who will advocate for working Montana families when it comes to insurance.”
Feaver noted that the state auditor has a seat on the State Land Board. “Jesse has a good understanding of the duties of the board,” he said. “Plus, he knows state lands and all public lands should stay public. He wants to improve public access to our public lands, and he will never support selling off our public lands.”
MEA-MFT represents 18,000 k-12 teachers and school support staff, Head Start employees, state and county employees, university faculty, and private-sector health care providers working in communities all across Montana. MEA-MFT is a merged affiliate of the National Education Association and American Federation of Teachers and is the largest affiliate of the Montana State AFL-CIO.
