Bill to close MT Developmental Center revived

The bill to close the Montana Developmental Center (MDC) in Boulder, SB 254 (Caferro), was just revived.

Last week the Senate Public Health Committee voted AGAINST Senate Bill 254, the bill to close MDC.

But today, the Senate voted YES on a "blast" motion to revive SB 254 and move it to the Senate floor for debate and voting. That will happen tomorrow (March 21).

MDC is a critical part of the continuum of services for people with intellectual disabilities, mental illness, and severe behavior issues. They are there because they need the services at MDC. Many present a danger to themselves and others when they are in the community.

Many of MDC's residents literally have nowhere else to go. No other facility in Montana has the capability to meet their special needs.

ACTION ALERT: Please contact all state senators today. Ask them to vote NO on SB 254 on second reading. You can leave a phone message for five senators at a time at 444-4800. Or you can email them one at a time from the legislative email system.
