HB 131: Good news for public employees

Montana’s Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) got a much-needed shot in the arm this legislative session, thanks to MEA-MFT, Governor Brian Schweitzer, and Representative Jon Sesso (D-Butte). House Bill 131, sponsored by Sesso, passed the legislature and was signed by Governor Brian Schweitzer May 1. The bill brings PERS into actuarial compliance with an increase in state-funded employer contributions.

“With the passage of HB 131, we have now adequately addressed our state’s constitutional obligation to actuarially fund our public employee retirement systems,” said MEA-MFT President Eric Feaver. “This is great news for our public employee members.”
